Yogyakarta – The Department of Electrical Engineering Education, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (DPTE FT UNY) has once again strengthened its international outreach through a community service project at the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education (FPTV), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia.

Carrying the theme "Strengthening Pre-Service Teachers’ Pedagogical Capacity through Technology-Integrated Instructional Media Training and Project-Based Learning in UPSI Malaysia," the program took place on June 14–15, 2026. The main focus was leveraging Augmented Reality (AR) technology to teach renewable energy concepts.

This initiative forms part of DPTE UNY's ongoing commitment to building the pedagogical skills of student teachers through innovative learning technologies. The project team consisted of four faculty members: Prof. Dr. phil. Nurhening Yuniarti, S.Pd., M.T., Hasan Zidni, S.T., M.T., Vando Gusti Al Hakim, S.Pd., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Meida Fitriani, S.Pd., M.Si.

Participating UPSI students, who are preparing to become future educators, received hands-on experience beyond basic exposure to AR. They learned how to apply the technology pedagogically to help visualize renewable energy concepts—topics like solar power, wind energy, hydropower, and energy conversion processes—that can be abstract when presented through standard text, 2D images, or lectures alone.

The training session followed an active, collaborative structure that included an orientation, an introduction to AR concepts, live demonstrations, practical hands-on exercises, project idea development, and the integration of AR with Project-Based Learning (PjBL).

Beyond training, the event strengthened the international academic link between DPTE FT UNY and FPTV UPSI Malaysia. Both institutions hope this collaboration will spark ongoing partnerships in immersive technology-based learning media, joint research, seminars, and professional development programs.

By combining renewable energy education, Augmented Reality, and Project-Based Learning, DPTE FT UNY continues to take concrete steps toward building an innovative, collaborative vocational education ecosystem tailored to future learning needs.
