Unmanned Aircraft Design by Students of the Department of Electrical Engineering Education Won the Best Design Technology Development Katerogi in the Indonesian Flying Robot Contest

RC (remote control) aeromodeling technology in Indonesia continues to develop. Indonesia once again gave appreciation to outstanding universities in developing aeromodeling technology through the KRTI (Indonesian Flying Robot Contest) event held on November 23-26, 2016 at the University of Lampung. This national level competition is a prestigious competition which is participated by various universities in Indonesia. Different from previous years, KRTI this year introduced a new division namely Technology Development which is a development of several previous divisions such as Fixed Wing, VTOL, and Racing Plane.

The 2016 KRTI UNY team took home the victory trophy in the new division. UNY successfully obtained the Best Design category on the night of the 26 November 2016 award at the Multipurpose Building, University of Lampung. UNY itself carries a flying vehicle named Dreamagination4. The Dreamagination4 Team under the auspices of the Robotics Team of UNY under the guidance of UKM Engineering Technology was designed by Baskoro Waskitho and Eko Heriyanto, students of the Department of Electrical Engineering Education. Azizah Durroh Fa'uz who is the manager of the 2016 UNY KRTI team said that the Dreamagination4 team had many innovations that led UNY to become the champion at this prestigious event. "Dreamagination4 is an unmanned aircraft innovation to monitor the territorial waters of the Republic of Indonesia through live streaming websites. Dreamagination4 has an aerodynamic shape and wings equipped with solar cells, and is equipped with a coil gun firing system as additional protection", he added.

Large territorial waters in Indonesia make this unmanned aircraft vehicle very appropriate to be applied to strengthen national defense. But "there is no ideal system", because this vehicle still has some shortcomings that need to be fixed. One of the Technology Development jurors Dr. Gesang Nugroho, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. said that this vehicle still lacked information related to the making of the vehicle, as well as the presentation of the presentation which was still lacking in detail. Based on this, the Dreamagination4 team will continue to carry out further research and development related to the provision of internal storage that can be opened at any time and equipped with a quadplane system.
